Queensland's Greg Torpy has taken first blood winning the 2020 Queensland IOM State Championship at Gladstone on 21-22 November.
Torpy came out on top finishing 10 points ahead of Paul Jones (NSW) with defending champion Doug Allen finishing 3rd a further 14 points behind, while locals Aaron Farrar & Grant Cooper rounded out the top 5.
The event sailed over the two days saw twenty six sailors compete in fantastic conditions with B rigs used for almost all of the races. The championship was hotly contested with no less than seven different race winners in 15 races which is a reflection of how close the racing was, being a great event to get rid of some cobwebs as we look to 2021.
With the 2020 NSW IOM State Championship scheduled for the this weekend (28th-29th November) we will see the clash of the heavyweights (Torpy & Jones) face off on Jonesy's home waters of Lake Macquarie and with the South East Queensland Championship the following weekend it's almost a 'State of Origin' as the pair fight for bragging rights!
